Sheep led by the wolves

My husband just asked whether girls were sheep when I was young. I said yes, young girls have always been sheep but in generations past mothers watched their sheep as protective shepherds. Today we have handed our sheep over to the wolves. This discussion was initiated by the current controversy surrounding the Oscar awarded to the pimp song. It seems that women are treated as nothing more than sex toys by today's pop culture. The women we hold up as heros are half naked and dumb. We, the mothers, are compliant with this state of affairs. Are we afraid of hurting someone's feelings if we stand up and say such behavior by other women is unacceptable? If a girl walks past us at the park with her belly hanging out, her breasts accented by an overly tight t-shirt and "juicy" emblazoned on her ass, shouldn't we tell our daughters that that girls is a slut. Or is it more appropriate to tell our daughters that "juicy" is ok. If a woman is a "dancer" should we accept her as ok - separate the behavior from the person - or should we shun her? I look around me today and I am horrified by the state of our culture with regard to women and girls. As a mother of a pre-teen the situation is particularly frightening.
